We know the purpose of narrative writing is to entertain. Is that all? Can narratives have other purposes as well?

Myths, legends, and fairytales often teach morals, themes, or explanations of the world. In this unit, you need to use your reading comprehension strategies and skills to learn about the morals, themes, and explanations that taught by different stories from around the world starting with the mythical creature Tengu.

First, recall what reading strategies there are and when they should be used. Record them on the following Google Slide.

What are myths, legends, and fairytales? Which ones can you think of? Read these two articles (The Difference Between Legends, Myths, And Fairy Tales and The Meaning of Myths, Folklore, Legends, and Fairy Tales) to find out the difference between these story types. Create a Venn diagram as a group to show the similarities and differences between the three story types.
