Are You Ready For Some Football?!

Thanks to Coaches Rojas, Wilkinson, Dutton, and Warren!

Fall Season 2019

Okeeheelee Football started early this year with our Spring season. We, the coaches, were a bit nervous. We were able to secure our biggest season ever with 13 games, but we were not sure about players. With only six returners, we weren’t sure what to expect. Luckily, when tryouts came (the second week of school) we found that we had many athletes to choose from. Over 70 students tried out for the team, and only 31 made it.

As practices started, we quickly learned that many of our players had never played football before, so we started from the beginning. Our first game was a little rough, but as the season progressed, they were becoming formidable opponents.

We were able to secure easy wins against most of the teams in the league, but our real challenges were Somerset Canyons Academy and Imagine Chancellor Academy. We spent most practices coming up with strategies to compete with these teams. We ended up facing Somerset Canyons in the playoffs, and our hard work was seeming to have paid off. After being down in the first half, Okeeheelee started to make a comeback. They finished strong, and only lost by one touchdown.

The cool thing about Okeeheelee Football is that we can do things a little different from the other sports. For example, we have girls on our team, and always have. Our girls’ season is new, but we have always allowed girls on our boys’ team. We are also allowed to play all year round. Even though this season has come to an end, we will be having a second boys’ season after Christmas Break, and a girls’ season during the 4th 9-weeks. It is a lot of work, but all the Football Coaches agree that it is definitely worth it!
