"At Dreyfoos, I began to deviate from practical filmmaking to focus my time on screenwriting. This is certainly attributable to the fact that I tend to overextend my ideas far past what is capable of being made on a highschool film set. I want to create instantly recognizable franchises with intricately crafted worlds and characters, but if I plan on directing these films, standing at the head of their creation, then I must know the story on a deeper level than anyone else. If I lay a foundation in screenwriting now, later directing, the universes of my films will have a level of overwhelming complexity that I bring to life from start to finish, just as they are in my head."
