Notification of Resignation (Employee): The employee resignation is to be provided to the employee’s Supervisor and include an affirmative statement of the employee’s intent to resign, the date that the resignation will take effect and the employee’s signature and date of signature. Resignation sent via email from the employee that include an affirmative statement of the employee’s intent to resign, but does not provide a definitive resignation date will be accepted and effective as of the date the email was sent. Likewise a written resignation not sent via email that does not specify an effective resignation date shall be accepted as effective at the time that the resignation is received.
Therefore it is important for the employee to communicate their intention to resign and provide an official resignation date.
The school has the right to ask the employee to leave earlier than their planned resignation date, at the school’s discretion. An employee who resigns or terminates must return all school property (school access badges, laptops, credit cards and all school documents in the employee’s control).
If you have a school-issued cell phone, please refrain from wiping (factory resetting) the phone and deleting any text messages between students and parents, as we are responsible for retaining these communications as part of the student record
The employee also may be asked to participate in a voluntary exit interview.
IT Security (Supervisor): Supervisors must submit to the IT User Removal Form as soon as possible about staff resignations or terminations.
Exit Survey (Employee): We would appreciate your feedback regarding your decision to transition from PALCS. Your feedback will be held in confidence, but indications provided that may support areas of improvement within our organization will considered and evaluated by PALCS as an opportunity for improvement. Keys and ID Badges (Supervisor): Keys and ID badges should be returned to Facilities Manager, Charlie Berkheimer (cberkheimer1@palcs.org).
Exit Letter (HR): The employee will be provided with a letter that confirms the final day of employment, the amount found within the final pay check (showing pay for days worked in that pay period, as well as any additional payouts for PTO if applicable).
Transfer of Sick Time: Instructional employees within the Commonwealth of PA are often allowed to transfer up to 25 days of unused sick time from one school district to another. PALCS can not guarantee the acceptance of unused sick time from PALCS to another school district but will, upon the employee’s request, provide the employee with a letter that confirms the balance of unused sick time accrued while an instructor at PALCS.
Benefits (Employee and HR): If an employee is covered through PALCS for health insurance, the insurance will remain active until the last day of the month in which the employee resigned. The employee should contact our Benefit Administrator for any questions relating to benefits.
