Discuss the implications of sub-systems on the design, development and maintenance of technological systems.
Design
Specialisation can allow development of high quality components at a reasonable price.
e.g. Nvidia graphics cards, Rolls Royce engines for jets, Hella with vehicle lights.
Imagine trying to design a house if you had to invent all of the sub-systems from scratch - toilets, ovens, washing machine, roofing system, home heating system etc.
Development
People can be trained relatively quickly to do a job that is focussed on a limited range of skills e.g. house building: one team does the framing, another does the electrical, another does the plumbing, another does the foundations.
But, it may take several teams of people to build a house - not always good if the house is out in the country.
Maintenance
Sub-systems can be easily removed and replace without interfering with the rest of the system. e.g. hard drives, screens and keyboards can easiy be swapped out of laptops.
