Students may not have more than eighteen (18) total absences per school year.  A student who is absent more than eighteen (18) times per school year, whether the absence is excused or unexcused, may not be eligible to pass to the next grade level and may be considered truant and cited pursuant to A.R.S. 15-803 unless prior arrangements have been made and cleared by the administrator (i.e., chronic illness or other medical reasons).

All medical documentation is to be forwarded to the attendance office.  If student is absent without the prior knowledge and consent of the parent, the student will lose credit for class work during the hours and/or days during which such an absence occurs. 

In addition, the following disciplinary actions will be taken. 

First offense – The administrator may assign the student to after-school detention and/or work detail to make up the time lost.  Parents will be notified. 

Second offense – The administrator may assign the student to after-school work detail and/or detention to make up the time lost.  Parents will be notified that the next truancy offense may result in long term suspension from the school. 

Third offense – The student and parents will be given oral and written notification that the student is receiving a long-term suspension from the school.
