Reflections on Pedagogy and Instructional Design

Hello! Welcome to my blog, "Reflections on Pedagogy and Instructional Design. Though I have been a teacher all of my life (I literally started my first teaching gig at 19!), I am relatively new to formal instructional design.

My undergraduate degree was in Secondary Education, Extended English from the University of Arizona. I taught high school English until my first child was born. During her preschool years, I became a certified Montessori teacher, which came in handy as I homeschooled her and her younger sister. My education path became a bit more convoluted from there, but between then and now, I taught online, blended, and face to face classes for a community college in Arizona while I took a graduate degree in Creative Writing from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, where I recently accepted a full time position as an instructional designer.

In my current position, I wear a variety of hats, though I was brought onto the team specifically to support faculty and extend our current faculty development programming. As a teacher-turned-designer, I find I have some areas of my own skillset that could use some bolstering. To address that, I am participating in the Online Learning Consortium's Instructional Designer Certificate Program. The current course, Professional Foundations: Collaborating, Researching, and Networking, requires participants to keep a blog of reflections, questions, and research. This site will be my documentation space for that activity. Thanks for checking it out!
