Master of Quantum Science and Technology
Quantum Information Science (QIS) is a burgeoning field at the cutting edge of education, research, and technology. It brings together scientists and engineers that have traditionally worked in separate disciplines including physics, materials science, electrical engineering, computer science, chemistry, mathematics, and statistics.
The UCLA Master of Quantum Science and Technology (MQST) program prepares students for research and development in quantum technology. Students in the MQST program will learn and strengthen their knowledge of the foundations of quantum mechanics, quantum computing, quantum information, and quantum devices.

Capstone Project
QNT SCI 597 will occur during Summer Sessions (June 23 – September 12, 2025) and consists of a research experience lasting at least 9 weeks.
Step 1: Students will either perform research in the group of a UCLA professor (for example, the faculty members of the UCLA Center for Quantum Science and Engineering) or through an approved internship at a QST-related company.
Step 2:
Near the end of Summer session, the students will submit a comprehensive Capstone report, to be graded by their committee, and present their work in our Capstone projects day.
Important Deadlines:
Capstone Project Information Sheet is due Friday, June 6th, 2025.
Master’s Capstone Paper is due Friday, September 5, 2025.
Master’s Advancement to Candidacy Petition (MATC)
Must pass the Physics Written Comprehensive Examination.
Course Requirement:
During the academic year, students must have completed nine courses, including the elective course (36 units).
During the Summer, students need to enroll in QNT SCI 597 (4 units).
Students must file the applicable Master’s Advancement to Candidacy form to the Physics & Astronomy Graduate Office no later than the second week of the quarter in which the award of the degree is expected.
