The Pacifica High School Culinary Arts Academy is a three-year program that is designed to support students who have an interest in the hospitality industry with a focus on culinary arts. We are dedicated to supporting our students on their journey to college or straight to the industry workforce. The Culinary Arts Academy will provide a rigorous curriculum to prepare the student for post-secondary education and training that will assist the student in making informed career choices.
The academy starts sophomore year and continues through graduation. Our academy is a California Partnership Academy program which is a state-funded program that allows for our students to do more hands-on labs and participate in more work-based learning activities than most other programs. A unique aspect of the academy is that we integrate the science, social science, and English classes into our program with culinary career-based learning and projects. Since we have general education teachers incorporated into the academy we can provide additional support and guidance for our students as a team.
Are you an incoming freshman looking to get a head start before joining the academy? Ask you counselor to help you register for Culinary Foundations! This is a class that is open to all students that will give you the basic skills to learn to cook on your own and you can get a feel for our professional kitchen!
Each year the academy students have the opportunity to attend work site tours to see the hospitality industry in action. We often meet chefs working at locations like Dodger Stadium and Medieval Times.
Senior year, second semester, students participate in internships and can be assigned to an industry partner to train hands-on in a business. Students earn experience that they can use on their resumes and sometimes get hired on the spot!
All courses required/included in the academy are all A through G and will ensure that students will be ready for a four year college, community college, or the workforce directly after graduation.
We currently earn over five industry certifications to help our students get a head start on their careers. Certifications include ServSafe Food Handler's and Managers, National Restaurant Association FIT Certification, and The American Heart Association Heart Saver First Aid and CPR Card.

Our students are often hired by customers to cater their events! They get real-world, hands-on experience that they can put on their resumes.
Senior year we offer students the opportunity to participate in various culinary scholarship competitions. Students receive high-level training and form strong bonds with their teammates.
We participate in several scholarship programs that are designed to help students earn scholarships for college! As of 2016, our current running total of scholarship money earned by students is $1,438,954.
