Welcome to Del Sol High School’s IB Middle Years Programme (MYP)
We are proud to be a Candidate School* for the Middle Years Programme (MYP), a globally recognized educational framework that encourages students to become critical thinkers, open-minded individuals, and lifelong learners. At Del Sol, we believe the MYP fosters personal growth and academic achievement by helping students connect their learning to the world around them. We invite you to explore our program and learn how we are preparing students for success in a rapidly changing world.
What is the MYP?
The MYP is an academically challenging program designed for students aged 11-16. It provides a framework of learning that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world, focusing on both intellectual and personal development.
Del Sol High School is a Candidate School for the Middle Years Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education that Del Sol High School believes is important for our students. Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org.
To foster an environment of continuous learning and understanding, uniting diverse perspectives to equip and inspire every individual in our community to be proactive contributors in an interconnected world.
In our community, we nurture curiosity, self confidence, and global awareness, preparing individuals for their futures and empowering them to make a positive impact.
MYP Key Concepts and Global Contexts
At the heart of the MYP are key concepts that drive inquiry and learning. These concepts help students make connections across subject areas and build a deeper understanding of real-world issues. The MYP also focuses on global contexts, which allow students to explore topics through lenses such as identity, fairness, and development. This ensures that learning is relevant and meaningful.
Subject Areas
Del Sol’s MYP curriculum includes the following subject groups:
Language & Literature
Mathematics
Sciences
Individuals & Societies

Students engage in inquiry-based learning to build their knowledge and skills in each subject area.
The IB Learner Profile is central to the MYP and describes the qualities we aim to develop in our students. These traits help students become responsible members of local, national, and global communities. Our students are encouraged to be:
Inquirers: Developing their natural curiosity.
Knowledgeable: Exploring concepts and issues with global significance.
Thinkers: Applying thinking skills critically and creatively.
Communicators: Expressing ideas confidently in a variety of ways.
Principled: Acting with integrity and honesty.
Open-minded: Respecting and appreciating other cultures and perspectives.
Caring: Showing empathy, compassion, and respect for others.
Risk-takers: Approaching uncertainty with confidence and perseverance.
Balanced: Understanding the importance of intellectual, physical, and emotional balance.
Reflective: Thoughtfully considering their learning experiences.
Developing ATL Skills
In the MYP, Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills are fundamental for student success. These skills help students become self-regulated learners who are prepared for the challenges of both academic and personal life. The five ATL skill categories include:
Thinking: Critical and creative thinking
Research: Effective research skills and source evaluation
Communication: Expressing ideas and collaborating with others
Social: Building relationships and working in teams
Self-Management: Organizing work, managing time, and maintaining well-being
We incorporate these skills into each subject, helping students to become more independent and confident learners.
