Course Description

No prerequisite required

This course is open for all students to experience a fun and focused approach to musical fundamentals, online or in-person using the third edition of The Musician’s Guide to Fundamentals. The text features online resources—including an online textbook, formative quizzes and a self-grading workbook while focusing on real music from Bach to Broadway, Mozart to Katy Perry. This course is designed to teach the basic elements of music: note reading, intervals, key and scale relationships, chords, rhythm, and melody. Students will learn the elements of the piano keyboard. Special emphasis will be placed on increasing the student’s ability to compose music and make connections to how music impacts everyday life in society.
