WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A MEMBER OF A TEAM AT OHS?

BEING A GOOD TEAMMATE

Being a good teammate in sports involves respecting and supporting your fellow players, communicating effectively, showing commitment and adaptability, and practicing empathy. It's about collaborating, displaying sportsmanship, and maintaining a positive attitude. Good teammates lead by example, address conflicts constructively, and contribute to an inclusive and growth-oriented environment. Every player also plays a vital role within the team's larger strategy, making each contribution essential to the team's success. Ultimately, being a good teammate not only enhances team dynamics but also strengthens the collective pursuit of victory.

TEAM CULTURE

A misaligned team culture can swiftly dampen students' enthusiasm for sports. When coaches, players, and families push & pull in different directions, it's akin to tossing marbles against drywall – the energy required to "break through" is diluted, leaving little impact. To make a substantial difference, unity is essential – much like marbles nestled in a small bag labeled Team Values, Communication, Work Ethic, Preparedness, and more.  When that bag of marbles is thrown at drywall, it makes a significantly bigger dent, if not a hole.

The takeaway: Every athlete, every goach, every parent/guardian and every fan, plays a pivotal role, investing in the team's purpose, mission, and process, all converging in a positive direction, breaking through the wall. Supported teams experience success.

SPORTSMANSHIP

At Owosso Athletics, representing ourselves, our team, and our school is paramount. We view participation as a privilege, not a right, demanding respect and dedication from athletes and families alike.

Pride in our school colors is non-negotiable. Wearing them symbolizes unity and purpose, showcasing our shared dedication.

In competition, we rise above. Responding with class to any provocation from opponents defines our sportsmanship. Our behavior reflects our values and maturity.

Owosso Athletics extends beyond the field. It molds character, teamwork, and growth. Let's be a model of excellence, leaving a lasting legacy through our actions.

Together, we shape Owosso Athletics' future with unity, determination, and a resolute commitment to representing the best of who we are.

OFFICIALS & COACHES

As the Athletic Director of Owosso High School, I am committed to nurturing a culture of sportsmanship and success across our programs. Our interactions with officials, coaches, players, and parents play a crucial role.

Interest in officiating and coaching has dwindled due to challenging parent dynamics as well as more seasoned officials choosing to hang up their whistles. Our school and programs must become known for sportsmanship and excellence.

Coaches, Players, and Parents must exemplify respect on and off the field, fostering a positive environment. For those interested, becoming a Sports Official offers a chance to deepen their sportsmanship journey.

Join me in shaping a future where Owosso Public School shines as a symbol of sportsmanship, inspiring generations.

SOCIAL MEDIA-CONDUCT

Your child's use of Social Media is an extension of their team commitment. While they have 1st Amendment Rights, the Code of Student Conduct applies. Being a positive Owosso Athletics Ambassador requires thoughtful consideration of their online actions. Have a conversation with them about being mindful in their engagement.  District and Athletic Department policies are to be adhered to at all times. Moreover, for those aspiring to play college sports, college coaches often check social media as an initial assessment. Keep this in mind!
