Students were each given a picture of an animal, plant, landscape, or weather of a Rainforest Habitat or an Arctic Tundra Habitat. Students had to explain to their partner which habitat their item belonged to. Then, students would come to the front of the class and tape their items under the correct habitat. Some students asked the class for help, and we used what we knew about each habitat to decide where the item goes.
In December, our students had a wonderful time exploring holidays from around the world. They learned that while each holiday is unique, many share common themes such as family, gratitude, and celebration.
By looking at holidays from different perspectives, students gained a deeper appreciation for how people around the world celebrate in different ways. They also learned about the history and significance of these holidays, such as important historical events or seasonal changes, helping them understand why these celebrations are meaningful to various cultures.
This was a valuable opportunity for them to explore diversity and build empathy for others, aligning with the International Baccalaureate (IB) focus on fostering global awareness and intercultural understanding.
