Adverb Sentence Starters

What do you notice about the way the sentence starts?

Curiously, the possum clambered up the branch. The mother possum's offspring cling on for dear life as she scurried to safety, away from the raging floods.


Sick Sentence:

Day 1:

1. Finish these sentences:

  • _________, I climbed up the mountain.

  • _________, the clouds began to darken.

  • _________, she danced across the moonlit streets.

  • _________, he tiptoed into the hallway.

2. List some adverbs you could use to describe the possums. Write a sentence using an adverb sentence starter.

Day 2: Improve the sick sentences, and add an adverb to begin one of the sentences.

The possum had eyes and fur. She went up the branch carrying her young.



Adverb Sentence Starters

What do you notice about the way the sentence starts?

Bravely, Jimmy urged his bike to an even greater speed. The engine beneath him roared angrily as it responded to his touch. Clouds of dust flew up into his face, grit grazing his chin painfully.


Sick Sentence:

Day 1: List some adverbs you could use to describe the riders.

Write a sentence using an adverb sentence starter.

Day 2: Improve the sick sentences, and add an adverb to begin one of the sentences.

The rider held on. His bike was going quickly over the ground. It was really dusty. He felt excited and scared.
