'ed' Word Sentence Starters

Example:

What do you notice about the sentences?

Exhausted, the determined climber eventually reached the summit, all of the pain had been worth it. Climbing Europe’s tallest mountain had been a dream of his ever since he was a child…


Day 1:

  1. Start these sentences with an 'ed' word:

    1. ______, he wondered what dangers lay ahead.

    2. ______, the boy scampered down the dark side of the mountain.

    3. ______, the girl roamed the cold, deep cave in search of the lost treasure.

    4. ______, her eyes lit up as she marveled as the wondrous sight.

  2. List some 'ed' words you could use to describe the mountain (or picture).

  3. Write a sentence using an 'ed' word sentence starter.


Day 2:

  1. Think of adjectives to describe the sun, sky, snow and mountain.

  2. Improve the sick sentences, and add an 'ed' word to begin one of the sentences.

The man walked up the slope. The sun was bright. The sky was blue. He looked forward to the view from the top.


Simile Sentence Starters

Example:

What do you notice about the sentences?

Like rain drops falling from the sky, sweat poured from the determined climbers face, the pain had been worth it. Climbing Europe’s tallest mountain had been a dream of his ever since he was a child…


Day 1:

  1. Start these sentences with the perfect simile:

    1. _______, the boy tumbled down the mountain.

    2. _______, the sun sparkled brightly in the sky.

    3. _______, the girl scrambled to safety from the falling debris.

    4. _______, the trees sway in the brisk morning breeze.


  1. Write a sentence using a simile to start your sentence.

(Hint: Write a simile about the picture and then add it to the beginning of your sentence)


Day 2:

  1. What are similes we can come up with for:

    1. cold

    2. mountain

    3. the climber
