HeaLth & Safety

The safety of students and employees is Ocean View School District's first priority.

Face Coverings for All

  • All students 2 years old to 8th grade are required to wear face coverings while at school, except individuals who are exempt.** While in the classroom or in organized activity outside, under the supervision of a teacher, and when social distancing can be achieved through other means (i.e. plexiglass), the teacher may direct students to remove their face coverings as necessary for the student’s well-being and health. A face shield is an acceptable alternative for children ages 2 to 2nd grade who cannot properly wear a face covering.

** Persons younger than two years old, anyone who has trouble breathing, anyone who is unconscious or incapacitated, and anyone who is otherwise unable to remove the face coverings without assistance are exempt from wearing a face covering
  • According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), face coverings may be disposable or made from various fabrics. Masks should block light when held up to a bright light and must be replaced any time there is a hole(s).

  • Persons exempted from wearing a face covering due to a medical condition, as confirmed by school district health team, must wear a non-restrictive alternative, such as a face shield with a drape on the bottom edge, as long as their condition permits.

  • Students with disabilities may not be excluded from educational environments if their disability prevents them from wearing a face covering.

  • All staff are required to wear face coverings.

  • Students who inadvertently fail to bring a face covering to school will be provided a face covering to prevent unnecessary exclusions. Please let any adult know you need a face covering and one will be provided.

  • Students will be excluded from campus if they are not exempt from wearing a face covering under CDPH guidelines and refuse to wear one. Students who are excluded from campus will be offered alternative educational opportunities.

  • A face covering or face shield should be removed for meals, snacks, naptime, or outdoor recreation, or when it needs to be replaced.

Hand Washing

During the COVID -19 pandemic, it is our goal to ensure all surfaces are clean. This includes our hands which often touch many things throughout the day. This is one of the simplest areas for Westmont to help reduce the spread of the virus. Students and staff will wash and sanitize their hands frequently throughout the school day.

Increasing the amount of times students and staff wash their hands and use hand sanitizer on a daily basis is a preventative measure to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Step 1 - Students will sanitize their hands upon entry into the classroom.

Step 2 - Students will sanitize their hands before going out to recess.

Step 3 - Students that will be eating a snack or lunch, will wash their hands before eating.

Step 4 - Students will wash their hands upon entering the classroom after recess or lunch.

Step 5 - Students will sanitize their hands before exiting the classroom at dismissal.

Sanitizing

  • High traffic areas at Westmont will be thoroughly cleaned daily by the custodial staff.

  • Staff will clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces on campus such as doorknobs throughout the school and throughout the workday.

  • Playground equipment and shared objects will be sanitized regularly.

  • Shared equipment transferred between students and/or staff will be regularly cleaned and sanitized by site staff.

  • Cleaning & disinfectant products align with the Environmental Protection Agency-approved list.

  • Custodians will follow product instructions and Cal/OSHA requirements including proper ventilation during cleaning and disinfecting.
