My Growth Mindset Plan

Fail early, fail often, but always fail forward.” ― John C. Maxwell, Failing Forward

Growth Mindset and Carol Dwek's (2010) four step plan will be introduced and reinforced for all staff through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Dwek's mindset quiz will be given prior to the introduction growth mindset. After watching the video The Growth Mindset and reading The Mindset the staff will use the think/pair/share activity to discuss:

  • What is mindset ?
  • How does mindset affect success?
  • Can you change your mindset? If so, how?

I will model and support growth mindset for the staff by personally internalizing the four steps they were introduced to:

  1. Learn to hear your "fixed" mindset voice.
  2. Recognize that you have a choice.
  3. Talk back to it with a growth mindset voice.
  4. Take a growth mindset action.

The teachers will be provided links and materials from Khan Academy and Carol Dwek to use with their students. A padlet will be used as a space for collaboration. Teachers can share new materials and ideas that can be used to create student growth mindset portfolios. One advisory period each week will be used for growth mindset activities. A survey will be given to follow-up with staff mindset progress. Support will continue to be provided to create a nurturing environment where all learners can grow.
