FOPSL Grant Awarded

Just before the COVID-19 situation closed Montera, the library was celebrating our newest delivery of books, thanks to the Friends of the Oakland Public School Libraries (FOPSL). This wonderful organization is dedicated to supporting Oakland students across the district by providing OUSD libraries with books, technology, volunteers, and grants. The Montera Middle School Library was awarded a $1000 Elaine Wells Books Kids Want to Read grant in the 2019-2020 school year. This generous grant enabled us to purchase 66 new books for the library. Thank you FOPSL!! We can't wait to read the books once we get back into our library!

PTO Support is Crucial

The Montera Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a regular supporter of the Montera Library. Thanks to the PTO's mini-grant program, we've been able to purchase supplies that help Mrs. Rogers strengthen and repair books, a laminator, and books, books, books, and more books! Just before the school shutdown, we placed an order for new award-winning books that we'll look forward to receiving when we get back to school. In the Fall, the PTO support enabled us to purchase new fiction and nonfiction books that focus on sports (a fan favorite topic at Montera!). And with the help of the PTO, we were able to get multiple copies of Jerry Craft's award-winning graphic novel New Kid into the hands of Montera students just before his visit to our library. Thank you Montera PTO!!
