ANZAC Day Project - Years 5-8 Due 9th April
Read the project sheet and get the facts sheets from your teacher.
This work needs to be in your own words (so do not copy straight from the sheet, internet / books).
Show your project to your teacher / teacher aide.
Next, make a slide show with images to compliment your sentences.
Think about the visual effect of your slides - can your audience read the sentences.
Audience: Ōuruhia School learners on 10th and 11th April. Completed with Ka Putahi as audience.
Project Outcomes:
Please see our ANZAC Project Google Slides (below).
Our Fun Trip to the Air Force Museum
On Monday, our class went to the Air Force Museum in Christchurch. We were excited to see real areoplanes from the past and to learn about the pilots who flew them.
Playing and Learning
When we arrived, we found a special play area just for kids. There was a colouring table, and fun simulated games where you spread your arms and control the plane on the screen. Chris taught us all about Gallipoli and the ANZACs (nicknamed the "Diggers" because they were always digging trenches).
Exploring Real Aeroplanes
We got to see many different aeroplanes up close. One of the coolest parts was climbing inside a real Iroquois helicopter and a Bristol Freighter. We even pretended to fly them!
Learning About Gallipoli
We also learned about a place called Gallipoli. A long time ago, soldiers from New Zealand and Australia went there to fight in a big war. It was a hard time, but we remember these soldiers every year on April 25th, called Anzac Day.
A Great Day
Visiting the museum was a fun way to learn about our history and the brave people who flew aeroplanes. Thanks to Sarah and Maria for being our Parent Helpers.
We truly think other kids would learn lots there and want you to know that it's free for your whanau to take you! Would you like to take your family to see the amazing, huge and retired Hercules, these holidays?

We had a very interesting visit to the Wigram
Airforce Museum on Monday. Our guide, Chris,
had a very interesting presentation on Anzac Day
and the Gallipoli campaign of 1915. We then had
time to browse about the museum and all of the
wonderful exhibitions. We also did a scavenger
hunt which included finding 10 different items
within the museum. A big thank you to Mrs Busch
for organising the day!
My time at Ouruhia has come to an end and I thank everyone for making me feel welcome.
