In March 2025, VOLA registered as an SCQF Ambassador School. As part of this we recruited 24 SCQF Ambassadors over S2 – S6. The Ambassadors work with staff, pupils and parents to share understanding of the SCQF and what this means for a learners journey.
VOLA is committed to enhancing the curriculum for pupils through varied learning pathways in the SCQF. Pupils across the school have opportunities to engage with a variety of qualifications in curriculum areas as well as qualifications achieved with our partners through Colleges, Universities, local business and wider achievement.
What is the SCQF?
The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) is the qualifications framework for Scotland.
It is used to compare and understand our country’s wide range of qualifications.
The SCQF has 12 levels, ranging from basic introductory skills (level 1) to doctoral degrees (level 12). Each level signifies the complexity of the learning outcomes.
SCQF credit points can sometimes be transferred to other programmes, so learners don’t have to repeat what they’ve already studied.
Universities, colleges, and awarding bodies decide how many of these points can be transferred into their programmes.
Using the SCQF in VOLA
All courses in VOLA are on the SCQF. This means all qualifications are accredited at Levels 3-7. All Curriculum areas in VOLA have developed their Learner Pathways to support pupils with their understanding of progression through subjects and levels. Pupils receive assemblies and lessons in PSHE from our SCQF Ambassadors, mentoring pupils on what their qualifications mean and developing an understanding of how they progress through the framework from school and beyond.
There are 12 Curriculum Areas in the school. Each area has a dedicated map of pathways to inform pupils of the steps and levels they must achieve to attain the qualifications they require for their next steps in their education or career.
Get to know the SCQF
There are many resources available to support young people with their journey through the SCQF. You can access these at any time and pupils can speak to their teachers and the SCQF Ambassadors in the school.
