Our literacy programme across the campus provides a rich and varied learning experience each day.
P1-3
Children take part in reading sessions three times a week, daily phonics to develop early decoding skills, regular writing opportunities with some aspects of talk for writing and focused grammar activities. They also have a reciprocal reading lesson weekly to develop skills in predicting, questioning, clarifying and summarising and opportunities to discuss texts together.
P4-7
Pupils take part in daily wraparound spelling sessions, weekly focused grammar work linked to current writing tasks, and a reciprocal reading lesson that builds comprehension, reading and discussion skills. Writing is taught regularly, alongside two dedicated reading sessions. In P4–5, this includes a teacher‑led reading circle and an independent reading circle, while P6–7 participate in independent reading circles and reading bundle focuses. See below examples of how the literacy week may look in P4-7.
