Welcome to the Chemistry department...

Chemistry is a dynamic and constantly evolving subject which makes a major contribution to numerous areas of modern life. Its study is of great intrinsic interest for many pupils and is also a natural introduction to a range of courses and careers beyond school. At CHS we deliver Advanced Higher Chemistry, Higher Chemistry, National 5, National 4, and BGE Chemistry courses.

Salters' Festival

https://www.saltersinstitute.co.uk/festivals/

In March, 4 S1 pupils participated in the annual Salter's Festival of Chemistry.  This is a competition open to all S1 pupils throughout the UK .  Clydebank High pupils took part in the event held at The University of Glasgow.  The team was made up of Rafal Wajdzik, Amy Scott, Emily Wood and Boyd Carson.  As this year is the 150th Anniversary of the periodic Table, the pupils were given the task of solving the theft of an element.  They worked in the labs of the University's Chemistry Department, carrying out a number of experiments on samples taken from the crime scene  to find the culprit.  In the afternoon session the teams were set a challenge by the University staff which required team work and the use of a range of problem solving skills.  At the end of the afternoon pupils watched a demonstration in the lecture theatre before prizes were awarded.  Our team did very well and won 3rd Prize for the University Challenge!!
