Administration is a growing sector which cuts across the economy and offers wide ranging employment opportunities. Also, administrative and IT skills have extensive application not only in employment but also in other walks of life. This is a practical course using real-life contexts making it relevant to the world of work.

Aims

· To develop a basic understanding of administration in the workplace and key legislation affecting employees

· To develop an appreciation of good customer care

· To develop IT skills and use them to perform straightforward administrative tasks

· To acquire organisational skills in the context of organising and supporting small scale events

Course Content

The course has 3 main units:

· Administrative Practices

· IT solutions for Administrators

· Communication for Administrators

Pupils will also complete an Administration and IT assignment

· ICT Skills

· Problem Solving

Methodology

Pupils will learn through a variety of methodologies including whole-class teaching, activity-based learning, peer and individualized learning. Pupils will experience learning through the use of ICT with knowledge and understanding integrated with practical activities throughout the course.

Assessment

Pupils will be assessed on each unit of the course. At the end of the year, pupils will undertake a skills based project which will give them the opportunity to demonstrate their administration and IT-based skills.

Aims

· To develop an understanding of how administrative practices are applied in the workplace and legislation affecting both organisations and employees

Course Content

The course uses real life contexts which enables pupils to understand the world of work and develops their IT skills and theoretical knowledge to work towards industry standards. The course reflects current administrative practice and takes account of emerging technologies to ensure its continuing currency and relevance.

The course will develop and enhance transferable skills that pupils can use to support them in the wider curriculum, further education and the workplace.

Methodology

Pupils will be assessed on each unit of the course. At the end of the year the pupils will undertake a skills based project which will give them the opportunity to demonstrate their administration and IT-based skills. Pupils will also sit an SQA examination.

Business plays an important role in society as we all rely on businesses and entrepreneurs to create wealth, prosperity, jobs and choices. The Business Course will help you understand the way business operates in the economy, and to encourage you to have an enterprising attitude.

· An insight into the systems organizations use to ensure customers’ needs are met

· Enterprising skills and attributes by providing them with opportunities to explore real life business situations

· Financial awareness through business context

· Knowledge of how organisations organise their resources for maximum efficiency and to improve their overall performance

· Awareness of how external influences impact on organisations

Pupils will be assessed at the end of each unit and at the end of the year. Formative assessment techniques will be employed throughout the course to allow teachers to check pupils progress.

Business Management - National 5

Aims

The Business Management Course is designed to enable learners to develop:

Course Content

The course has 3 units:

· Understanding Business

· Management of Marketing and Operations

· Management of People and Finance

These core concepts of Business theory and practice will be explores with current and relevant examples of the Business world allowing pupils to study business in context. Pupils will research real life Business situations and use Case Studies to improve their analytical and literacy skills and their ability to work efficiently within a team. Pupils will also work collaboratively on business themed presentations which will develop communication skills.

Pupils will sit an SQA exam question paper worth 70% of their final grade, with their coursework assignment making up the other 30%.
