The National 4 Mathematics course includes the study of number, money, shape, space and measurement in everyday life, enabling the pupils to interpret data and tackle real life situations.

PRIOR KNOWLEDGE- This course will suit the needs of pupils who have successfully completed National 3 Lifeskills or have experienced Level 3 in the Broad General Education

In order for you to reach your full potential we expect you to attend class regularly, come prepared for each lesson, meet deadlines for classwork and homework, seek help if experiencing difficulties and prepare thoroughly for each assessment.

PROGRESSION – Successful completion of National 4 Maths may mean pupils can progress onto National 5 Applications or National 5 Mathematics

HOMEWORK- Homework will be issued on a regular basis and will reflect the pupils class work, homework will be given from a variety of sources, including a homework book or at times they may be issued with a write-on sheet, testing their knowledge on a particular topic.

CONDITIONS OF AWARD- This course is split into 4 units of work, Expressions and Formulae, Relationships, Numeracy and an Added Value Unit. Passing all 4 units will result in pupils achieving the National 4 Mathematics award. These units will be assessed over three blocks of work before an end of Level Assessment.

These units test basic competency and will be assessed as pass or fail by the school. National 4 courses are not graded.

Homework

Homework will reflect the work of the class and is taken from a variety of sources.

Additionally, Formal Homework exercises will be issued for each block of work.
