We promote active learning and learning through play with a strong focus on Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing. Our aim is to develop skills for learning, life and work using the 6 WDC Competencies to guide our skills development.
We encourage our children to be effective collaborators, independent learners and critical thinkers and we promote digital literacy acorss the curriculum.
Your child will experience a range of learning activities throughout their school day, with opportunities to learn and grow in a stimulating, engaging, motivating and creative environment. There will be opportunities to:
develop literacy and numeracy skills and confidence
learn through collaboration with others
develop social and emotional skills
develop critical thinking and creativity
think about how they learn, and what they might learn next
develop confidence and independence
develop digital skills
We encourage you to spend time with your child after school talking about their day, their friendships and what they have been learning. Reading is a extremely beneficial shared activity too and we recommend you read from a variety of texts at home and from the library. Remember home learning should be fun, so if your child is tired or struggling to complete tasks, take a break. If you have any concerns or questions about home learning, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Every child in West Dunbartonshire is issued with an OurCloud account, which allows them to access their Google Classroom. This is used as a place for teachers to share online learning materials, homework and additional information for our children and parents. You will also find photographs of the learning that has taken place which is a prompt for your child to talk more about their day in school.
