The Laramie Project is a powerful and moving documentary style play that explores the real life aftermath of the 1998 hate crime against Matthew Shepherd, a gay college student in Laramie, Wyoming. Based on hundreds of interviews with Laramie residents, the play paints a deeply human portrait of a small town grappling with tragedy, identity and change.
Otsego Pride Alliance is proud to host Pride in Oneonta, NY every year to celebrate and honor the LGBTQIA+ community and its history.
At OPA, our aim is to build LGBTQIA+ community in this area. The Alliance includes, in addition to Otsego County, the queer community and allies in Upstate New York. Our organization started with the goal of bringing Gay Pride to Otsego County and has grown into a thriving queer community that hosts events all year and provides support for queer youth and families.
We know how important it is to have queer community for support, safety, friendship, and a sense of belonging. We invite you to join us for LGBTQ+ events, like skating, get-togethers in the park, drag shows, queer teen nights, and of course, Pride in Oneonta! We list gay, lesbian & transgender friendly events in Upstate New York throughout the year which you can find on our events page. If you have a queer event you’d like us to promote, please let us know!
We hold regular meetings to plan the future of the organization, set up social events, and prepare for Pridefest every year. If you are interested in getting more involved, please send us a message. We will be happy to have you find a place in our organization!
