Bio-mechanic principles aren't the only things which impact the performance or success of a skill. They help us to understand how or skill works or why a movement happens in a certain way but there are also many other 'factors' which change they way we perform day to day or across different activities.
Most of these are described under the term 'socio-logical' factors - meaning massive influences from our society. These can change the way we do things compared to people in other parts of the world, or determine if we even participate in an activity altogether! They can either be positive or negative but you need to understand that regardless of what activity or sport you are playing, these always have an impact.
These factors are:
- Social - Environment - Political - Economic - Ethical - Cultural or Historical
The influence of people around us. Our family, friends or people at school.
One massive social influence we are constantly faced with is PEER PRESSURE or the pressure to 'fit in'.
The influence of our lives, our place and the places around us.
If you have a busy life and very little free time, you will probably not have much time to dedicate to serious training.
If the closest beach to where you live is 2hrs away, it's very unlikely you will take up professional surfing.
The influence of our government and the laws we work under.
This also includes local governments ability to provide locations to train on (local parks or tracks for running, basketball hoops, tennis courts etc).
The influence of our money and what we can afford.
If you come from a wealthy family you have more opportunities to try new sports compared to a poor family.
If I can't buy a gym membership or weights, it will be very difficult for me to be a body builder.
Your own ability to work around things like cheating, doping or lying.
Try doping and get caught, can get banned from sport.
Try lie about run times for an assessment, could get caught and fail entirely.
Your belief systems/families beliefs and the influence this might have on how you do things.
Some religious groups believe you shouldn't train/play games on Sundays. This would put these people at a disadvantage to those who can train or play on these days.
You or your families history.
If your whole family plays tennis, you are highly likely to be influenced to do the same. Or act out in defiance against this.
