Writers Notebook
Your child will be writing daily in a “Writer’s Notebook.” This will be a composition book where they will do their planning, drafting, editing, and revising. In order to make it more engaging and exciting for your child, we ask that they decorate the book to personalize it. They can add stickers, pictures of their friends, family, pets, or anything they enjoy. The book will have a lot of personal narratives as well, so adding pictures of people they might want to write about is a good idea. They can also put pictures of their favorite characters from books.
Their name must be somewhere on the cover in big letters that are easy to read. Only glue items that will lay flat on the cover. I have also found it best if you put clear packing tape over the cover after the glue dries. This keeps the pictures and glues on items from fraying, ripping, or falling off. I have a writer’s notebook that I decorated and will be writing in. I will show them this week as well for inspiration.
Some students may prefer minimalist designs that are not overly complicated. This is completely acceptable as long as this is genuinely what the student most enjoys working with and show some effort toward personalization.
