The scholars are required to choose one compulsory course and one elective (out of the two offered). In total, each scholar must appear for two papers, as follows:
Compulsory Course:
PAPER–I: Research Methodology, Social Statistics and Computer Applications
Electives:
PAPER–II (A): Sociological Research: Applied Fields and Emerging Areas
OR
PAPER–II (B): Development Management and Research
Course-work End Examination:
Each paper has two parts namely;
Short answer questions: 4 questions (compulsory questions carries 05 marks each)
Essay Type questions: 4 questions (with internal choice carries 20 marks each)
Marks: The end examination will carry a total of 100 marks.
Seminars on Research Work
The scholars are required to deliver open presentations at three stages, as outlined below:
Research Design Seminar – to be conducted after the completion of the coursework.
Progress Seminar – to be conducted after fieldwork and data collection.
Pre-Submission Seminar – to be conducted prior to the submission of the thesis.
Publication of Research Papers
The scholars are required to publish two (2) research papers related to their area of study in journals approved by the UGC/University or indexed in SCOPUS, Web of Science, ProQuest, or Scimago.
Submission of Thesis
A softbound copy of the thesis, duly approved by the Department and the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Osmania University, shall be submitted.
Upon submission, the thesis will be forwarded by the University to three subject experts for evaluation. Based on their adjudication reports, the University will conduct the viva-voce examination.
Submission of Thesis
The candidate is required to defend his/her thesis in an open viva-voce examination constituted by the University.
