Enrollment

Students, parents or school staff may request voluntary enrollment for our independent study educational setting. Enrollment is available throughout the school year. During intake, our school staff will work with families to establish an independent study contract that best meets the student’s educational needs.

Please contact your student’s school counselor for a referral or our program directly at 760.901.8600 to schedule an intake meeting! Prior to your student’s meeting, parent/guardian(s) will need to:

Have a:

• Valid address within the OUSD boundaries or District approved transfer from District of Residence

• Valid email address

Upon completion of this online process, the parent or legal guardian will need to provide the following documentation to Surfside Academy staff:

• Verification of residence

  • 2 proofs of residence

• Immunizations

• Birth Certificate

• Transcript (if student is in grades 9-12)

• Enrollment Confirmation from Aeries online registration

Our independent study program at Surfside offers an alternative learning environment that aims to supports students who are looking for a learning environment different than the traditional educational setting. Most of our students attend for 2 hours per day and work between 3-4 hours independently outside of school. However, students can attend anywhere between 1-5 days per week and 1-4 hours per day depending on student need. Typical hours of program attendance are 7:30-9:30, 9:30-11:30 & 12:00-2:00.

Students usually work on one class at a time and are expected to complete a minimum of 1 semester course (or 5 credits) every three weeks.
