Stuttering or a fluency disorder is when students:
-Repeat syllables in words (i.e., mine would sound like mi-mi-mi-mi-mine)
or
-Holds out sounds in words (i.e., mmmmmmine)
or
-Block (when students are trying to speak but nothing comes out)

Medical clearance from a physician (preferably an ENT) is needed to work on voice. SLPs want to ensure if a medical condition is present, that this is treated before or in conjunction with services. If you have concerns about the following:
-Voice is too low/too high for age
-Voice is hoarse for periods longer than 3 weeks
Please make an appointment with your pediatrician and ask for a referral
