Math in kindergarten is fun and very interactive. You can find math anywhere, and the more you point it out to your child, the better he or she will begin to understand. If you ever need any other ideas on how to help your child with math please let me know at any time.
To see the Common Core Standards your child will work on in kindergarten please follow the link below
The following curriculum is used in the classroom for math:
GOMath and the workbooks associated with it.
CGI (Cognitive Guided Instruction)
Number Talks
The concepts to work on with your child at home are:
Reading and writing numbers to 20 and beyond independently and out of order.
Counting to 100 by 1's, 5's, and 10's.
Adding and subtracting numbers in word problems up to 20.
Measuring objects to discover which one is shorter, longer, and/or equal.
Comparing numbers to discover which one is less than, greater than, or equal.
CGI Word Problems
Here are some examples of word problems we focus on for the month. I encourage you to practice these type problems at home and just change the numbers around. Students are always encouraged in class to use manipulatives and write/draw out their thought process.

Please look for any notes I may add to help guide you with additional things to do with your child. Also, there are always extra pages that can be worked on at home with your child to help reinforce what is being taught in class.
