Dance I provides students with an opportunity to experience movement, express creativity, and enjoy success, while at the same time increasing fitness and skill development. This course is designed to provide opportunities for the beginning dance student to explore dance both as an art form and as a means of physical exercise. This class includes proper warm-up and conditioning, basic terminology, skill progressions, self-analysis, as well as dance technique development, choreography, and performance. In Dance I students will learn the basics of ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, hip hop, musical theatre, lyrical and be introduced to a variety of cultural dances.
Dance I is open to any 10-12 grade student for physical education credit who have also taken and passed Applied Fitness Concepts during the 9th grade year.
Members in Dance I will have the option to participate in the annual Homecoming Half-Time Performance in October and/or the Dance I/II show in December.
