TAG REFERRAL PROCESS
TAG Referrals may come from:
Legislative Update on SB 934: "This Oregon State Bill permits anyone to refer a student for TAG assessments, says that districts must assess referred students, and requires them to post their referral process on their website." (Passed May 20, 2025)
Referrals can be made from but are not limited to:
Teachers
Parents
Students
Coaches
Grandparents
TAG law states that nationally standardized tests of mental ability (cognitive assessment) shall be used for intellectually gifted identification category.
We universally screen all 2nd and 5th graders each Fall using the Raven's Progressive Matrices Test. We screen all "new to district" students each Spring.
For the academically talented identification category, tests of total reading or total math from a nationally standardized test battery may be used to refer a student:

WIAT-4 (Reading and Math)
Referrals can be made any time of year.
In our district, the referral does not have to go to a “child study” team before the testing process is initiated.
