The Native American Education program is a federally and state funded district program that is aimed at addressing the educational issues of Native American students in the Osborn District. Funding is based on the population of Native American students within our boundaries.
Osborn's objective is to improve the education of Native American students through a supplemental education program that concentrates on education in grades 4-6 at Clarendon Elementary, Longview Elementary and Solano Elementary. The program aims to improve the writing scores of annual assessments by providing academic assistance to Native American students.
The Native American program operates on a pull-out system at the schools with 4th, 5th and 6th grades. The Native Education Specialist works directly with students in small groups and uses culturally relevant literature in the teaching of reading and writing. Students are enrolled in the program by teacher referral and by their Arizona State testing scores.
