Tara Hartman
PhD Student | Bioengineering
Tara is a PhD student in the OSU-UO Joint Bioengineering program. She is also pursuing a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
Tara’s research is focused on creating in vitro models of endometrial and bronchial epithelial tissues to study their barrier functions. These models will be used to study drug delivery and phenotypic responsiveness to hormones in the 28 day menstrual cycle, with future applications in menopausal tissues.
Summer Experience in Science and Engineering for Youth (SESEY) is a week-long program to promote education in STEM fields. Our summer 2025 research team investigated the barrier properties of different cell types using diffusion, viability, and barrier integrity experiments. The high school students also made this model of cancerous cervical tissue!
Their hobbies include reading, embroidery, video games, weight lifting, and going to the coast.
