Mathematics is a field that deals with the study of numbers, quantities, space, and patterns. It contains a wide number of notable subdisciplines such as algebra, geometry, calculus and statistics. It is used anywhere and everywhere in life to solve problems and give easy answers. Math is a foundation to almost every field of science especially STEM where it is used to solve complex problems in fields like physics, computer science, engineering and many more. Mathematics is the basis for almost all scientific research. It allows for great technological advancements that help make daily life for society easier (Burnham 2019). It is also used to help solve social economic problems in the world to make life better. Notable careers in mathematics include mathematician, statistician and data analysts (Burnham 2019). These three are all especially important for my critical issue as scientists will all of these areas to accurately model insect populations through the use of differential equations and data analysis. This is very important when dealing with invasive species of insects.
