Collaborative Professional Learning Experiences: Panther Pause

Because we value the expertise of our colleagues next door, down the hall, and across the school, at OHS we prioritize learning with and from one another. A variety of job-embedded collaborative professional learning experiences help us sustain our school-wide culture focused on learning, and include:

Instructional Rounds

Collaborative Classroom Visits (CCVs)

Panther Pause

All OHS educators are automatically members of our school-wide professional learning community (PLC). The Panther Pause process was designed by a team of teachers while attending a DPI-sponsored, state-wide "Every Teacher A Leader Summit" and was piloted in May, 2017. Panther Pause are part of the collaborative professional learning experiences at OHS but are intentionally different from Instructional Rounds and CCVs in that there is no special date, no group to bring together, and no sign-up structure.

Teachers in any school have the opportunity to visit and learn from colleagues and students, but in reality these visits rarely occur. At OHS, teachers are encouraged to briefly visit one another's classrooms while teaching and learning are happening. Visiting teachers also leave behind written descriptive, meaningful feedback (see form below) aligned to and designed to forward our school's Theory of Action. Panther Pause are teacher-driven and are grounded in strengths-based observations -- the idea that there are rich learning opportunities happening in our classrooms all the time.
