There are so many different ways to research colleges and programs - the goal is to find a few resources that help you get the info you need to narrow down your options. Whenever possible, try visit campuses in person to get a better sense of of the culture and vibe. Take a tour, check in at the welcome center, or strike up a conversation with a student!
Start here: Click on the College List Template and make a copy. Use it to create a list of the schools you are interested in so you can keep track of important information like deadlines, letters of recommendation, and helpful links.

The College Tour - Good for vibe check. Features TV-show style intro to many colleges and universities.
College Express - Match with colleges and scholarships that fit you. Use the "lists" to broaden your search.
The College Essay Guy - A comprehensive website with lots of info on lots of topics, including a page for low-income and first-gen college applicants, and a step-by-step guide to developing a college list.
Niche - create an account and take their quiz to find good college matches. This tool is also good for finding 'safety schools.'
Washington State Community and Technical College Field Guide - Info on Washington's 34 community and technical colleges.
Honor Colleges - A site that describes and lists Public University Honors colleges and programs.
College Net - A database of colleges, scholarships, and other resources.
Colleges That Change Lives - A non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and support of a student-centered college search process.
HBCU - Link to historically Black colleges and universities.
School Buff - tackle college planning calmly, strategically, and systematically.
