Welcome to LEGO Robotics! During your Robotics time, you can choose to have the kids follow the "Unearthed" program or to do other lessons. It's up to you! Our Competition will specifically be from the "Unearthed" program. There will be NO District Showcase.
If you want to just do other lessons with the Prime kit, start here: https://education.lego.com/en-us/lessons?products=SPIKE%E2%84%A2+Prime+Set
Uncover the Future with Unearthed!
This year we will be using the FIRST AGE program called UNEARTHED.℠ Every artifact we uncover holds a story. Each tool, each innovation, each work of art connects us to the people and ideas that came before us. Using STEM skills and teamwork, today we can dig deeper into discoveries than ever before. During this archaeology-inspired season, teams use STEM and collaboration skills to unearth new findings about themselves and their collective communities to help build a better world.
Go HERE for the page with all the builds. Click on "Building Instructions"
Competition Mat Slideshow - this includes information about each mission as well as notes from coaches meetings and our discussions as well. I'm adding on each time, so check it for new information too!
If you (or your team) are new to LEGO Robotics and they are not ready for the Challenge yet:
1) Spend at least 1 session on Team Building exercises. A Robotics Team has to be able to work together, problem solve, communicate clearly, and be respectful to each other and adults.
2) Go to https://spike.legoeducation.com/ (Choose Prime) and start them on the Tutorials (Click "Start" on the left). Once they finish learning how to use all the components, under Units choose "Competition Ready." These activities will get them learning how to use the Program, build a basic Driving Base (which can be used for the Challenge Mat), and give them more experience before they begin diving into the missions.
3) Finally, don't spend a bunch of time on building the LEGO missions. It's a Robotics team, not a LEGO team. If you need to, send the missions home to be built, or just take them home to build them. The coding aspect will take a long time and you don't want to waste your precious meetings doing mission builds.
Please reach out with any questions! Good Luck!

How to Unbox your Spike Prime Kit:
A few notes about the kit:
Put the stickers on the dividers (see photos below)
You will need to update the hub to make sure it has the latest update (Spike 3) and that you name it to go with the tub. I recommend something short like your school and a number (such as POR 1 for Portola #1). You will also want to put stickers on the hub and the tub!
Expansion Kits: There is one Expansion kit per 2 Prime kits. You might want to keep those separate, don't just dump it in a box.
Tiny black pegs: A recommendation from our trainer Stephan - use a salsa cup or a baggie to keep the black pegs. There are so many of them and they can get lost easily!
