My visual journal of Ricky updates
oct. 11th I got the car in Rutland for $300, found it, and went the next day with this suburban. we brought it halfway back and stopped at my friends house so we could mess with it. i put a new battery in it some oil and a little bit of gas. i found a small vacuum leak and that could've been part of the problem. then also I clean the mass air flow sensor. and she started right up. I knew I had to drive it the rest of the way. I found out is leaking oil from the turbo oil return line. I drove it home as slow as I could and pulled it right into the garage
oct. 21st there are definitely some problems. the window just falls down if its not held up by a piece of wood. the tires are shot and I know the last owner tried to drive it into the ground. so far I know its leaking oil, and most definitely has a blown head gasket. other than that there are little things like blinkers and mirrors missing and just little things i need to bring it together. this means a trip to the junkyard
oct. 24th this is the stock turbo. its pretty small and it has a built in blowoff valve. it also have a oil inlet and outlet, and it ALSO has coolant lines. and the new turbo only has oil lines so im foing to have to block off the old coolant lines. i have been trying to figuer out how to run lines for the new turbo. i got new soft lines i just have to get it to bolt to the block
oct. 27 it took a couple days on tinkering to get the turbo out without breaking anything. i had to remove the AC compressor and trying to to breqak the metal oil lines (if i break the line its going to be terrable to get out) i founf out the the turbo i got 3 months ago for a diffrint car will acually just bolt into place on the exaust
this is the exaust manifold. i figuefred out its a t3 flange so the new turbo fits over it but it wont seal. im going to sand this down untill its flat and i can press fit a new seal. this is the biggest thing im going to have to modify other than coolant lines
oct. 29th this is my exaust manifold and stock it has a t3 flange but it has thus little lip and i just couldnt get it to seal with it still there
i sanded it down flat so i can bolt the turbo into place and than connect the oil lines and it should all bolt into place.
the stock turbo had oil and coolant lines. the new turbo only has oil lines so i had to figure out how to route the coolant back into its self
this is my turbo oil feed line. stock there was a banjo bolt since there is barly any space i didnt know what to do. i went and talked to my mentor and he helped me peice togher this 90¨ i changed the stock hard lines with custom soft lines so i can still fit it wherever i need them. i also replaced the return line and made sure its not going to leak.
i was really scared and i didn't think i could connect it to the turbo and i wanted a a little valve so i dont get to much oil. i had to drill and thread 2 holes into cast steal so it wasnt to hard i just needed it perfect.
november, 1st yo can see in this picture the silver oil lines. my threds worked perfect. you can also tell with the little blue lines i installed a boost controller and new vaccume lines. this was the first time its been bolted onto the exuast and I was able to start the car again
november. 11th my volvo is a 1993 and it has 290,000 miles on it and the rubber lines are starting to decay. when i first started working on the car i reran vaccume lines and i thought i had gotten every vacuume leak. ricky was stalling (and its a automatic) and i couldnt figure out why. than i blew up a intake pipe when i hit 15 psi with the new turbo
With 295 thousand miles i most definitly needed a new head gasket. i have done 4 other volvo headgaskets and felt i could acomplish this within a night
i replaced gaskets to hopefully solve my vacuums leak
febuary. 15th removing the Cylender head only took me 2 hours and i got everything back in place within that night. but now I'm running into another problem and I thought I messed up the timing. after 4 hours of messing with it I figure out it was definitely in time. i had broken a fuel injector when I removed the fuel rail
march 3rd. my turbo blew i has a broken injector and i didnt know what to do, so with that came a new headgasket, a new way bigger turbo. and went to the junkyard to get new injectors
