Dear Senior Project Board

I am writing to you regarding my senior project.I plan to work and study around stock car racing. Racing is something I grew up around with my family. I chose this because my cousin Kyle races and I am a big part of his race team.He races at Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, VT.I have been working on a race car as long as I have been going to the races but still have so much learning to do.

Building and racing stock cars brings something new every time you race, go to the track and work on the car.I am still in the learning stages , which is a perfect time to do a project like this. I kinda know how to check and work with the tire pressures, measurement of the tires and making sure the lug nuts are tight so they don’t come flying off.The newest addition to the race team is our Facebook page MacAskill McDonald Racing (MMR). I am in charge of the Facebook page, giving week to week updates and the happenings at the track. There are a lot of things that are challenging when it comes to racing. But there are some things that are especially challenging for me. I am left-handed and most of the tools that we use are meant for right handed people. I haven't quite figured out how to use all of the tools, nor do I understand how everything comes together from the motor to the gas to shifting the car through the gears.

For the writing piece of my project,I am writing about females at Thunder Road and how it changed for them over the years.I think this is important to talk about and research there are not a lot of females that are in this sport. I also plan on researching the history of the reason for the lack of women in motorsports. I hope to discover and learn about the females and their stories and experiences that they have.

My product is going to be pictures and videos of me doing work,maybe the race car. My mentor’s are going to be my uncle Bob MacAskill. I plan to get my 30 hours done at the track (Thunder Road in Barre Vermont) and possibly at the race shop.I have money put away for racing each season.I plain to do my hours in the summer because that is when stock car racing happens. Do research and paper in the fall when I come back to school.
