Who is your School Counselor?

Hello! My name is Tracey Meekins. I am from Elizabeth City, NC and I moved to Greensboro in 2012. I have a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Elizabeth City State University and earned my first Master's degree in School Counseling at Cambridge College in Chesapeake VA. I earned my second Master's degree in School Administration at Gardner Webb University and is currently working on my Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership at Gardner Webb University. I have been working in education for the last 16 years, and enjoy helping students achieve their academic goals and overcome barriers that keep them from being successful.

I am the proud mother of a teenage daughter and we have 6 parakeets, 2 bunnies, and 2 fish. We are extreme pet lovers! I spend my free time, completing homework assignments, reading, watching movies, singing, and exercising.

I believe in the motto, "You can achieve, if you believe!" I believe in challenging students to overcome their fears to conquer their goals and dreams. I strive daily to be a positive role model to prepare students to be positive citizens in a challenging world while achieving their academic goals.

What does a School Counselor do?

A school counselor delivers a comprehensive program that addresses students' academic, career, and personal/social development needs.  High school is an important time in an adolescent's life when students are deciding who they are, learning their strengths and weaknesses, and figuring out the next step in their life after 13 years of schooling.  You will see me, your school counselor, leading classroom guidance lessons, small group counseling sessions, and meeting with students individually for planning or to help work through a difficult time.

I will address a variety of topics including college and career readiness, bully prevention awareness, goal setting, emotion regulation, and building skills for resiliency.  I work closely with Mr. Farrington, Mrs. Creech and our teachers to develop an engaging program at PA that will give students the greatest opportunity for success in high school and post graduation.

If you are a student or parent and would like to request for Ms. Meekins to meet with a student, please complete the form at the link below.

Partnering with parents and the community is essential to the success of our students, especially during virtual learning.  I can always be reached via email at tracey.meekins@orange.k12.nc.us or phone at (919)245-4030, extension 25020.
