Identification Procedures
Nominations
Orange County Schools Criteria (2016-2019 AIG Plan) is used to identify students for the AIG program.
- Any student, parent, teacher, and/or staff member can nominate a student to be considered for the AIG program.
- All nominations are directed to the AIG Specialist, Grant Gibson. Contact can be made via email- grant.gibson@orange.k12.nc.us, telephone- 919.644.3200 ext 31900, or a written note left in the main office addressed to Grant Gibson.
- Nominations for the AIG program does not ensure testing and/or identification.
- AIG Referral Window(s)
Data Gatherings
Once parental permission is received, the AIG Specialist will begin to gather data including, but not limited to, the following items:
- Achievement test scores
- Aptitude test scores
- Most recent report card
- Survey data from teachers and/or parents
Determinations
What happens once data is collected?
- A.L. Stanback Needs Determination Team (NDT) meets to review data and determine identification/service options. A student can be Academically Gifted (AG), Intellectually Gifted (IG), Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG), or Does Not Qualify for Services.
Definitions
- Academically Gifted (AG): Academically gifted students perform, or show potential to perform, at substantially high levels of accomplishment, when compared with others of their age, experiences, and/or environment, in the academic areas of reading and/or math.
- Intellectually Gifted (IG): Intellectually gifted students perform, or show potential to perform at substantially high levels of accomplishments, when compared with others of their age, experiences, and/or environment, in reasoning and critical thinking in areas outside of reading and math.
- Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG): Academically and intellectually gifted students demonstrate evidence that meets the definitions of both academically gifted and intellectually gifted as listed above.
New Transfer Students
- AIG services will be honored from previous county and state schools. AIG information will need to be transferred to A.L. Stanback for confirmation of services at prior school.
