I am an Extended care mentor at Club Oak Park. My interest in working with youth began at the young age of 16 after I received my black belt in taekwondo. Receiving my black belt after eight years of training meant I could assist in teaching the classes for the younger classes which ultimately inspired an interest in a career in youth development. My first paid job was working at a Boys and Girls club in Camarillo CA. At this location I made strong connections with the youth and became a role model inspiring fairness, hard work, and respect. At this location I also spent a month teaching chess to a group of interested kids. I also went on to teach a computer building class that succeeded in teaching youth how to build a PC, identify parts, and describe the function of each part. After a year and a half of working there, while attending moorpark college for my AA, I decided to join my sister in Grand Island Nebraska while she worked on her psychology doctoral degree. In Grand Island I worked long hours in a security role positioned at CHI Hospital. A year later I was back in Camarillo CA looking to get back into youth development which led me here. I see my position at Oak park as a home away from home where I stride to build connections with youth. My main goal at Club Oak Park is to express the fundamentals of fairness, hard work, and respect in the hope that others will follow suit. When I am not working, I enjoy several hobbies. My all time favorite is archery. I have been doing archery for about eleven years at the outdoor archery range Conejo Valley Archers. I am currently in the process of becoming a certified coach with the goal to be a teacher for others and maybe coach at the archery range located within the Growing Outdoors program!
