Process to Request a Counselor Recommendation Letter:
If only a transcript is needed, please follow the transcript request process found here.
Counselors are only able to write recommendation letters if it is a required part of an application process. Counselors must have at least 3 weeks notice (excluding school breaks i.e winter break and spring break) before a deadline to write a recommendation letter. Please follow the steps below based on grade level and purpose of recommendation letter.
Grade 12:
When a counselor recommendation is required for a college application:
Follow the steps provided in the "Applying to College Naviance Instructions" reviewed at your senior meeting in August.
When a counselor recommendation is not required for a college application, but needed for other application purposes:
Please follow the Grades 9-11 procedure below.
Note: Students can make this request of their assigned caseload counselor or the College/Career Counselor, Ms. Fitts.
Grades 9-11: When a counselor recommendation is required for a special program or scholarship application:
Come to the office to speak to your counselor (preferred) or email your counselor to request a counselor recommendation. Be prepared to share what it will be used for, where it shows a counselor recommendation is required, and the deadline to submit.
Once you are given a clear yes from your counselor, you will then be directed by your counselor to fill out the "Summer or Scholarship Program Counselor Survey" in Naviance. When you log into Naviance, go to "About Me" >> "Surveys."
Create a resume in Naviance or upload a copy of your resume to Naviance (both found under the "About Me" section).
Once the counselor survey is completed, email your counselor to set up a short interview to review your responses and confirm details for sending the counselor recommendation letter. Reminder, this should be done at least 3 weeks before the deadline.
Important: We do not provide copies of recommendation letters to students; we will only send recommendation letters directly to an organization. If the program asks you to upload the letter, you will need to reach out to the program to find out where your counselor can submit your letter.
