Reasons to keep your child home from school:
Fever of 100.4 degrees or higher Your child must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication like Tylenol
Diarrhea or vomiting (remain home for at least 24 hours after last episode)
Coughing or trouble breathing (if your child is experiencing frequent coughing, shortness of breath), or any difficulty breathing, they should stay home and recover.
Sore throat (especially with fever or swollen glands; this could be a sign of strep throat or another contagious illness)
Rashes or skin irritations (any unexplained rashes or skin irritations should be evaluated by a doctor before returning to school
Pink eye (conjunctivitis: redness, itching, or discharge from the eye can spread quickly. Keep them home until they have been treated and cleared by a doctor)
Lethargy or general discomfort (if your child seems unusually tired, irritable, or unwell, they may need a day to rest, even without a fever.
COVID-19 symptoms or exposure isolation guidelines are aligned with state/CDPH guidance: if someone tests positive, or is symptomatic, etc., they should stay home until symptoms improve and they are fever-free. Ventura County no longer requires strict isolation in all cases, but it still encourages it.
