Students reading in the Brookside Library, OPUSD
Our K-5 classrooms will be piloting TCI Social Studies Alive! during Fall 2024.
Studies Weekly is a student-friendly periodical organized thematically to the social studies strands of civics and government, geography, economics, and history.
Scholastic News is a student-friendly magazine aimed at engaging students in content and building their nonfiction-reading skills.
Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a progression of targeted interventions to ensure all students excel behaviorally, academically, and social-emotionally. OPUSD uses Illuminate Education's Fastbridge platform to universally screen students in grades K-8 three times a year in Math and Reading. A team of educators and paraprofessionals review the screening data, along with classroom data, to identify students needing additional math and/or reading support. Our Interventionists provide evidence-based interventions in 6-8 week cycles. Student progress is monitored throughout the intervention periods and students are re-screened during the next screening window.
Learning Support Teachers coordinate our elementary academic interventions, Study Study Teams (SSTs), and Section 504 program to ensure all students have the supports they need to be successful.
