These are given and are not meant to make you nervous or bring your grade down! Your chorus teacher will assess you in order to see what you are capable of and what you need to improve. If we didn't hear you sing in a smaller group setting, we would never know what you are truly capable of and how your voice is developing. Middle School is an important time for young singers!
Know that your effort in chorus matters! Even if you are in a big class, you must still do your best to help your section in rehearsal and participate in class discussions. Come prepared to class with all of your belongings, chromebook, pencil, and chorus binder. Raise your hand to answer questions. Sing out and participate in your section!
Throughout the year we give quizzes, worksheets and google classroom assignments that will raise your chorus grade if you put in the effort during class to understand the concepts. There is no such thing as a zero. Should you do poorly or forget to hand in an assignment, please still DO IT! Doing these solfege, rhythm and music theory based worksheets and assignments will further along your understanding of musical terms and concepts and help your practice them!
Concert participation is expected and required. We prepare for these performances for so long and we need the entire group present. It would be so foolish to attend all the practices for a sports team and skip out on the game. However, these concerts are different from a sports game because they are a curricular event. (which means you get a grade for them like your Math test or your Spanish speaking exam. They also only happen once per semester! That should be manageable for every family and every student. You must make every effort to attend. If something comes up that is extremely important, your teachers MUST have an email from your parents well in advanced to avoid losing points on your concert grade.
