Student Progress, Reporting
and Parents Evenings
and Parents Evenings
During the academic year you will receive three academic reports including an ‘Attitude to Learning’ (AtL) and ‘On Track for’ grade, providing information about your child’s efforts and academic achievements. These will be sent home electronically. You will also be able to meet your child’s teachers at Parents Evening.
At the end of the Autumn term you will receive your child’s ‘AtL’ grade for each subject, this should indicate how well they have settled in, overall. You will also receive an indication of how your child is achieving in each subject in the form of an ‘On Track for’ grade. This grade is a reflection of how likely it is for your child to achieve their end of KS4 (GCSE) target grade.
The second student report will be issued in the Spring term with the third student report being available by the end of the Summer term.
The date for the Parents' Evening appears on the school calendar which can be accessed via the website.
Parents’ Evenings are an opportunity to meet and talk to your child’s teachers to find out in general terms how they are getting on. Due to such large numbers of students, parents’ evenings are organised differently in secondary schools.
To support your child settling in to secondary school, there will be a Year 7 Settling in Evening when you will get the opportunity to meet your child’s form tutor. This is designed to give parents a general overview of how the term is going so far.
The Year 7 Meet the Team Evening is on Wednesday 8th October 2025, 5-6pm
The Year 7 Parents' Evening on Wednesday 25th March 2026, 2:30-5:30pm will provide you with the opportunity to meet some of your child’s subject teachers. Further information will be sent closer to the time.
The second student report will be issued during March 2026 with the third student report being available by the end of the academic year. These will include the following information for each subject:
Attitude to Learning (AtL) grade
Indicator of progress towards an end of KS4 target level
Appointments are five minutes long and it is important that we maintain this time to ensure the effective running of the evening. If you know that you will need longer than five minutes, please arrange a meeting with the teacher at another time.
As some teachers may teach the whole of the year group, it may not be physically possible for them to see every student. If you cannot make an appointment with a teacher that you really need to speak to, please contact them at another time via enquiries (admin@onslow.herts.sch.uk)
The students are expected to attend with you as it important that they become more responsible for their learning and progress. We expect them to wear full school uniform as it is a formal event, and to bring their school planner and a pen.
